TUEETOR CHATS With June Teh from Crafty Fox

Are you looking to delve into crafting in the new year? Start small by making your own leather key pouch, or a beautiful 3D lightbox!

Crafting as an industry has exploded in the past ten years, so we spoke to June Teh, the founder of Crafty Fox, to learn more.

Hi June! What’s your story?

Crafting has been a passion of mine since young, but as I grew up, I could hardly find time for it. Being in the rat race for many years, I woke up one day thinking that I want to pursue work-life balance above all. I prayed for an opportunity that could make my passion my career, and it came true.

I’ve never looked back since and I love every minute of what I do.

What excites you most about your industry?

I love the fact that it is ever-changing, and reflects the epitome of creativity. It allows me the opportunity to create new products in the market and be innovative with no limitations (besides cost factor, of course!)

What do you hope your students will achieve?

I hope they will simply enjoy the moments of making something with their own hands, an experience that offers a deep sense of satisfaction upon completion, no matter how tough the process is. I always tell my participants that no craftwork is ugly as long as they put their hearts and mind into doing it.

If you had to teach something different, what would it be?

It would probably be in the area of Lifeskills. I hope to touch and empower lives given the opportunity.

What have you learned recently that blew you away?

Durian and rice actually taste pretty good together!

How do you unwind?

I unwind by Netflixing (I have watched almost all the comedies on Netflix!)  , listening to music and chilling with friends at home over a cozy home-cooked meal.

Who inspires you?

I get my inspiration from people of all walks of life, even the old granny collecting cardboard boxes. She inspires me to be useful and to make a frugal living when I’m old.

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?

You can achieve anything if you want it bad enough!

Recommend us a book you think everyone should read and why:

I’d recommend a craft book so that your interest in crafting will be piqued and be motivated to sign up for my workshops *laughs*
